It’s funny how something as innocuous as a photo on Facebook can trigger off a whole lot of thinking. Somehow, it felt like I was looking at a photo of someone I didn’t know at all… almost like, things never, ever happened? Really weird feeling…

Was anyone else as blown away as me by the spectacle that was the Beijing 2008 opening ceremony? Seriously, everything from the stadium to the city-wide fireworks to the sheer grandeur of it all was simply breathtaking.

Man, tonight’s NDP is going to be boring, haha.

It could have been a scene out of a movie: me walking down Orchard Road on the way to Borders, passing by the newest Starbucks in town (outside Pacific Plaza), with Petula Clark’s “Downtown” blasting from the speakers in That CD Shop.

Whoa, it’s been a while since the last post… as you can probably guess, I am barely surviving the ravages of work and life itself. Anyways, what’s keeping me sane is of course the good stuff that I’ve been listening to in recent weeks but haven’t had the chance to share with you guys! Well it’s never too late I suppose…

The album of the week for me (belatedly) is one that has been around for a while now but I only got around to listening now. Twenty-four-year-old Duffy is, in a word, pretty-darn-awesome. I really don’t want to compare her to any other singer as I feel that she’s very unique in today’s industry; a lot of people say she sounds like Amy Winehouse but for me, Duffy’s got a gentle quality in her voice (displayed in songs like “Distant Dreamer” and “I’m Scared”) which Winehouse does not possess at all.

So anyway, Duffy is from Wales and her album Rockferry ()sounds like it could have been released in 1965, with its old-school Motown sounds. By now most people should have heard her single “Mercy” which sounds so retro and yet up-to-date at the same time. Sounds intriguing? Then you must really check her out! I really like this album.
